Rain or No Rain?

Since this is a particularly busy time of year for many of you brides and grooms planning your incredible upcoming wedding, I thought that I can start passing along some very important information to consider while selecting your wedding date and location.

So, let’s get right to the point and one of the biggest concerns.  Rain.  Even though having a wedding in California is less concerning when it comes to this soggy version of Mother Nature, we still have to be prepared.   We comment to our brides and grooms all the time… It will work in your favor if you plan for rain even if the chances are slim.  Don’t you remember “Murphy’s Law?

If you are still on the hunt for that perfect venue, be sure you ask questions  that include what the back up plans are for rain.  How many guests will you be able to have indoors if your ceremony is moved?  Can you bring in a tent?  What have they done in the past for rain situations?  What months or times of the year for your location should you be cautious of the seasonal drops?  Your wedding vendors are perfect resources for helping you plan for alternate weather conditions since they have the experience.  And they should have experience, if you know what I mean.

Now don’t be nervous or think rain will automatically cause problems for your wedding.  Some of our best events were filled with umbrellas and the biggest smiles ever.

Rrain or even snow can add an element of uniqueness to your wedding photos and video as well.  We love to sugggest to our couples that having personally selected umbrellas or fun rubber boots can add a lot of personality to your images.  There are so many incredible colors and brilliant designs of umbrellas to select from.  We are even adding to our collection for variety and to help with the experience of the day.

Let us know if you have a perfect rain story or even if you have questions about weddings in the rain.  But most of all, don’t be shy about asking your vendors for help and ideas.   We want your day to be as perfect as planned.

Happy New Year to Our 2010 Brides!

We truly wish everyone a Wonderful and Safe New Year.    A perfect time for new beginnings and great opportunities.

And with the New Year, everyone in the wedding industry is buzzing with excitement and anticipation for the upcoming bridal shows.  When I say upcoming, we are talking in the next two weeks!  And the Countdown begins!

Bridal Shows can be hectic, stressful and a bit overwhelming.   But we really want to encourage brides and grooms, family, wedding party and friends to jump in and check them out.  The shows are truly an incredible opportunity to save yourself time running around town and making appointments with a variety of services from caterers, florists, Dj’s and, yes, yours truly, photographers.  We are there to help answer questions, show samples of our work and just spend time with you learning about your wedding day plans.

So, mark your calendars and pass the word around to all your friends to join you at the Bridal Showcase on January 10, 2010.  This is the biggest show of the year at Cal Expo in Sacramento, California.  We can wait to see you there and show off our newest backdrop and specialty albums.  We really have a surprise for you!

Destination California?

Normally, we encourage our brides and grooms to hold off a couple of months to have their engagement pictures taken since Spring is right around the corner.  All the flowers and trees will be in bloom and full of life.   But Madison and Ben had other plans.  They decided to have their destination wedding at the incredible Monte Verde Inn over the holidays.  Yes, California was the destination since our wonderful couple are from Texas.  Madison and Ben had come into town a couple days before the wedding and we took advantage of the clear weather and the downtown charm of Old Town Auburn.

It just goes to show you that it really doesn’t matter what season or time of year it is,  your engagement session is as unique as you are.  There are so many locations all around our region that can offer amazing backdrops and inspirations to match your personality and desires.  Where would you like to have your engagement pictures taken?

Had to include this last shot of the holiday ornaments for the Christmas spirit.  Madison and Ben were wonderful and we couldn’t wait for the wedding in two days.  Here are two sneak peeks from the wedding.  A perfect beginning to the holidays.  Merry Christmas and Congratulations to Madison and Ben.

Our Own Snow Day at Home

Every 5 to 6 years, we get a perfect dusting of snow that usually melts in a couple of hours at our little foothill location.  But this year was a real treat since we still have snow on the ground after three days.

The boys couldn’t get enough of it and there were even some tears as the snow began to melt.  But, the they still managed to build a snowman, slide down our hills and just play.  Oh, our adorable Dakota was just as excited to keep up with the boys.

Playing for me meant getting pictures of the boys and our amazing property covered in a white blanket.  Enjoy.

Share your images and snow day memories.  Let us know if you are up for a family or portrait session in the snow.  Our mountains are minutes away and ready for winter fun!

One of my favorite of the grounds.

No Tears Here

Little Miss Hayleigh thought she was going to give us a workout to capture her personality.  Oh, but we had a little surprise for her.  She gave us her best shot, but so did we.

Hayleigh joined her Mom and Dad for some family portraits as many families do this time of the year.  But there was a little something special about this session.

Many of you know that blogging is still a little new to our studio.  We are having a ball learning and growing with the experience and the feedback has been amazing.  So amazing, that this is how I had the privilege of meeting Hayleigh’s Family.  Her Mom, Kara, is an incredible blogger that has inspirational stories about family, home, decor and everything else you can think of.  Check her out at   http://livelifeinspired-kara.blogspot.com/ and http://fashionablyinspired.blogspot.com/

So, how did she find us you ask???   Who other than our adorable Tracy Girl.   Yes, the T from TnT Spectacular that we have posted about before on her engagement and wedding.  They don’t even know each other in person.   How fantastic is that?  (I only wish I could have taken Kara’s wedding images too.)

But I get to spoil the family from here on out.

Now that is something to write about.  We would love to hear about your new connections and how you came across our site.  We would also  love to make our blog more interactive with our guests as well.  Tell us what you would like to see  and read about from our side of the camera.

Here is one final look at those adorable leggings Miss Hayleigh “fashioned” for us on her picture perfect day.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!

Say Hello to Duke

FordFamilypet6

Going with my recent theme of {Dogs}, I thought I would introduce you to Duke.  Yes, I should be showing you our endless images of the incredible fall colors that are exploding in our back yard at this very moment.   But, how could I pass up this face?

Duke is officially the newest family member of Ford Family Photography and we had a ball with him.  His parents, Kate and Lawrence, are newlyweds and we had the amazing opportunity to photograph their wedding this year at the Gold Hill Vineyard in Coloma.  It was absolutely perfect and we were thrilled they came right back for more fun.

I love sharing little stories and experiences such as this.  We strive to show how important each and every one of our customers are to us from the moment they come through our doors.  The best example we have is when our guests return and bring along their growing family.  It truly means the world to us and we are honored to be apart of such a responsibility to capture those fleeting memories.

This little English Bulldog had us laughing out loud for hours after his session.  Since our studio is on our 10 acres, we are so fortunate to be able to entertain families with pets and allow them to run around and enjoy themselves.  Duke didn’t hesitate for a moment to take full advantage of running and playing.  There wasn’t a doubt in our minds  that he was going to sleep very well that night.

Bring your “Entire” family up for fun, laughs, and oh yeah, pictures.    Tell us about your pet and your favorite memories.   We can’t wait to hear from you.

Don’t forget the opportunity to have a photo taken with Santa on November 14th as a benefit for a local animal rescue organization.  We have a blast with the variety of pets that come through the doors and would love to see you there.

Has Christmas gone to the {Dogs}?

Ford_SantaPaws

One of our favorite benefit drives of the year is coming up in a couple short weeks.   AAARF will be holding their 7th Annual Santa Paws – Pet and People Photo Event.   We have been honored to be the photographers for this event the last four years as it continues to grow and expand into an Auburn Community highlight for the season.

AAARF is the Auburn Area Animal Rescue Foundation and they are an incredible team of individuals that donate their time and efforts to save and find homes for so many dogs and cats.   AAARF is also celebrating their 12th anniversary of service in the greater Auburn Area.

The Santa Paws event is truly wonderful.  Barry and I have so much fun with all the different pets and families that come for their pictures taken with Santa.  And I mean different pets.  Besides dogs and cats, we have had turtles and rabbits too.   This is truly a wonderful opportunity to have a family photo taken and support a great cause.

Our Santa,  Jack Kenny, is incredible with the animals.   He is a local Auburn resident and very special to all of us.   Jack was one of the Auburn residents that lost their home in the Auburn Wild Fire just a short while ago.   Even with all of his losses, he continues to be an incredible giver and supporter to local benefits.   Our hearts go out to him as well as a huge thank you.   This pet photo event wouldn’t be the same without him.

So, how can you pass up this Family Photo Opportunity?   For $12, you are supporting a great cause and receive a FREE 5×7.    I definitely know how important our fur family members are to us.  I can easily say that 3 out of 4 of our family sessions now include a dog or two as family members.   (That reminds me to add more fun shots on our gallery page on the website.  Look for pet ideas soon.)

Come and check out this event on Sunday, November 14th from 11am to 3:30pm at the Rite Aid Garden Center on Bell Road in Auburn.  Rain or Shine, we will be there with our toys and noise makers.  Besides the photo event, there will also be a great opportunity to meet other local pet suppliers for food, treats, microchipping and even a raffle.   Be sure you plan your outfits to make this a perfect Holiday Picture.  We can help you design and order Holiday Greeting cards as well.

One last note, this is also a  great time of year to  donate any extra supplies such as blankets, newspapers, toys, food ,etc. to this wonderful organization.  AAARF is so appreciative of anything we can offer to help their efforts.    Thank you for all your support and donations.

See you and your family on the 14th!

Family Time at the Pumpkin Patch

We finally took a little break with the boys and headed to Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm in Weatland, CA.  Usually, we make the mistake of waiting until the week before Halloween to grab our perfect collection of misfit pumpkins.  But this year, we wanted to take advantage of a warm autumn day.  It actually heated up to 80 degrees.

Yes, I did mention “misfit” pumpkins.  The boys have taken to our love of unique and colorful combinations.  Sammy even stuck to his promise of picking out a white pumpkin and another having just yellow and green.  Both boys actually went on a hunt for a white pumpkin in the vast sea of orange and green.  It was perfect.

Even though pumpkins are always our favorite adventure and highlight since it includes a cool wagon ride, there are so many other activities and attractions to partake in at this farm that continues to grow and expand every year.  Zach and Sam always  anxiously wait their turn for the train ride and to play on the old Southern Pacific caboose.  But this year, they were really smitten with the petting zoo.  Both boys found a couple pygmy goats they were able to shower love and affection over.

We hope everyone is taking the time to start their own family traditions.  This is the perfect time of the year to enjoy the changes of the seasons and build lasting memories.  Our boys remind us all the time how quickly time passes.  But most of all, they remind us that these memories are favorites of theirs too.

Bring your favorite pumpkin with you when you head out to our studio this season.  We love seeing the enjoyment and color they can add to your portrait experience.
