What a Beautiful Beginning!

As 2012 Weddings begin wrapping up, 2013 is in full swing with bookings and engagements.  We wanted to share one of our latest and favorites.

Everyone we photograph have their own unique style and personality and it is what makes the experience so much fun for all of us.   Now, Allison and Jordan had something very unique and all their own.  It was contagious and incredible.  No words can describe how special these two are with each other.

Barry will have to post which pose number this was tagged at.  Of course, you can only imagine how much fun he was having interacting with Allison and Jordan.  He keeps asking when the wedding will be since he obviously didn’t get enough time to hang out with them.

What a beautiful future ahead for these two!  Congratulations to Allison and Jordan.  More stories are sure to come.

Playing for Keeps

Diana and Brian were recently married at the Monte Verde Inn and their wedding was perfect.  There wasn’t a doubt in our mind that when Diana mentioned she wanted one more chance to have pictures in her dress, the moment would be breathtaking.

But you will never guess where this shot was taken…

Or These…

I’ll be honest, not sure I could tell you either or even if I will ever be able to find this location again.  Then there was the moment of… “You want me to go down there in that?”  Oh, yes, I can safely say I have tried about everything now, but this place and time will definitely be a lasting memory.  Not because of the adventure of just getting there, but of the amazing couple we spent the day with.  (We won’t go into the details of a flat tire, edge of a cliff, or the pending darkness in a canyon two miles down.)

The experiences we share with our brides and grooms are truly one of a kind and stay with us forever.  Thank you Diana and Brian for one our best memories yet, and many more to come!

Double Congratulations!

You may remember Suzanne and Dustin as our Style Me Pretty couple with their stunning wedding at the Monte Verde Inn.

Well, this wonderful couple just celebrated their two-year anniversary.  But the big story is that they actually have a little something, something else to celebrate very soon.

This little something is actually a pretty big deal.  Suzanne and Dustin spoiled us, yet again, for a little quick photo session as they wind down to the final days of becoming parents .

A huge congratulations to these new parents.  We can not wait to meet the new little man of their house very soon.  It is always so enjoyable to see you both.

Just Cakes

They are Bold and Beautiful and of course, Delicious.  What a beautiful and stunning way to pull all your favorite touches of your Wedding Day into one perfect centerpiece.  The design options are endless: Colors, textures, flowers, jewels, and ribbons.

The flavors are mouth-watering:  Marble, Pink Champagne, Red Velvet, Peanut Butter and Chocolate… Just to name a few favorites.

Don’t forget the Topper.  Your own personal stamp and timeless touch.

We really enjoy photographing cakes.  They are a one-of-a-kind piece of art.   And these designs happen to be from Kelly Dalisa at Monte Verde Inn.  She never ceases to amaze us with her creativity.

But the best part of the cake is how excited our brides and grooms are when they see and taste this incredible creation.  We will have to share the action shots for a later blog.

If I had a recommendation to all my brides and grooms when selecting their cakes and designs:  Don’t be shy and have fun with it!    Barry and I still talk about our cake from our wedding 12 years ago.   Oh, don’t forget about the cake tasting.   A perfect date if you ask me.

Enjoy designing your cake and share with us your favorite flavors and designs.

A Lovely Summer Day

Another beautiful and lovely summer wedding at the exquisite Monte Verde Inn.  Summer weddings are ideal here with all the gardens and flowers in full bloom.  Kellie and Brad’s wedding day was no exception.  They even kept the color scheme to light and softer tones for adding a little more romance to the feel of the day.

Oh, and there was adorable little Presley.

This little darling was a true angel.  She even had Barry wrapped around her finger.

Kellie and Brad’s day was complete with family and friends relaxing and enjoying the incredible grounds and food.  Dancing under the stars was perfectly orchestrated by Larry with Extreme Productions.  It was a beautiful day and a perfect celebration for everyone.

The Color of Summer

This will definitely be a busy week of posting some of our latest sessions, but we just had to put a little something up showing a few from Vanessa and Nick’s lovely wedding at Monte Verde Inn on this past Sunday.

How could you not be in a fabulous mood with the ever cheerful color of yellow everywhere as the wedding accent of choice.  You could also find touches of yellow on the Monte Verde Inn grounds as well since their gardens are just incredible as usual this time of year.

One of my favorite details of the day was Vanessa’s Wedding Dress.  While helping her with the final details of getting ready, she told me the story of how she found her gown.  I was so touched that she acquired her dress through an organization that donated 100% of its proceeds for breast cancer research.  Here are a few sites that offer this amazing opportunity: Womens Dresses, Brides Against Breast Cancer, and Donate My Dress

We had such a terrific time with Vanessa and Nick along with their family and friends.

Congratulations again to a beautiful couple.  We can’t wait to see you again and share the memories of such a perfect day at such a perfect wedding site, The Monte Verde Inn.

How Important are the Details?

It’s time to get down to business again.  Wedding season is in full swing and all the details are being finalized as the important day quickly approaches.  So, how do you know if you are missing anything?  Why in the world would a photographer bother talking about silly little details such as toasting glasses, gift card holders and even table settings.  Seriously.

Let me give it to you straight.  It really is a very simple formula that has worked for us for many years photographing brides and grooms.  A Happy Bride and Groom  = A Great Celebration.  A Great Celebration = Amazing Images.  (Here is where it gets interesting)  Amazing Images = A REALLY HAPPY Bride and Groom.

Now, I am aware that we are not part of the detail planning that goes into selecting all the little parts and pieces that go into your wedding.  But, I can tell you that our brides and grooms contact us on a regular basis to discuss many of these points of interests and traditions.  Our planning sessions have been so successful in helping our couples work out the wedding day timeline and visualize how everything falls into place.

Don’t forget that there are so many other resources of guidance that can help in every way.  Wedding Coordinators and Event Planners such as Lora Ward and Kendra Pfeiffer are just two amazing ladies that give you support and direction you shouldn’t live without.  They have resources and experience that can help make your planning and wedding stress free as well as a truly enjoyable experience.  Color matching, sizes and shapes of center pieces, linens, table placements, favors, etc. are just a few of the many details of your day.

Other professional resources include florists, Dj’s, and on-site coordinators.  Kelly at Monte Verde Inn and  Harmony at Citizen Hotel both have years of experience taking care of their brides and grooms down to the very last detail.  They are experts at their locations and know how to make your day absolutely fabulous.  Let your professional vendors take care of you.

Here is where we step in.  Of course, our role is to capture the memories of your labor of love.  However, many of these details play an important role with the flow of your day.  We can’t start pictures if your flowers are late.  Nothing is worse than the groom’s suit not fitting or having the wrong vest and tie color.  Where are the customize engraved toasting glasses as the Champagne is being poured?

The point is… we are documenting your own moment in time.  Your very own piece of history and new family traditions.  Every detail you dreamed about sharing with family and friends are going to be part of your wedding album of memories.  Don’t miss out on these important images.

Have fun with the details and let everyone involved help, including your friends and family.  We will be there too.  Making sure your toasting glasses are filled and the candy bar is topped off.  Who wouldn’t want that job?

Meet and Greet Monte Verde Style

This is an especially fun little blog for us.  We get to tease all the Monte Verde Inn Brides and Grooms out there with a couple images to get them ready for the amazing Open House and tasting this coming Saturday.

The Open House is truly an exciting event with every combination of food samples you can imagine including Kelly’s phenomenal cakes.  Not to mention that you get to check this amazing site out and fall in love with all the photo opportunities available.  Ok, maybe I am getting a little more excited for you since we know how spectacular your day will be.  (It doesn’t hurt to stir the imagination up a bit.)

The Open House is a perfect opportunity to meet and visit with great vendors including Joe with Sj’s Disc Jockey, Mike with Jensen Wedding FilmsO’Shays, and Shana Beals (Make Up Artist) for starters.  They all have amazing experiences with weddings and especially at the Monte Verde Inn.  So, bring your notes, your questions, your magazine clippings and share with us the wedding details that are inspiring you.  We are there to help all the planning ideas fall into place for you.  This is definitely not a time to be shy!

What Flavour are You?

It was pretty much hands down.  Our little poll on Ford Family Photography’s Facebook page asked if we should blog about shoes or cakes.  Both favorites of our brides.

So, let’s get down to business.  I know, this is a stressful subject to talk about:  All those cake samples you have to eat and select from.  We are happy to step in and help you through this process.  Really, who needs to go through that cake tasting anyway?

Ok, all kidding aside.  This is really an exciting and enjoyable part of the planning process.  But where do you start?  As with everything else in the wedding planning experience, referrals are always a sure bet.  Your favorite venue and friend can also be the first source of contact.  Other sources include florists, photographers, and other “hands on” vendors like wedding planners that get you through the day.

Your wedding cake is the Center of all Center Pieces.  Every wedding we photograph, it’s “Where is the CAKE?”.  Nothing pulls your colors and design personality together more than that one of a kind tower of indulgence.  Why not have some fun.  Some of the fabulous cake designers we are showcasing include, Kelly Dalisa at Monte Verde Inn, Shelton’s Wedding Cake Design, Carissa Jones at Sugar and Spice, Divine Desserts, and Village Cake Shoppe.  These are perfect examples of amazing professionals that are dedicated and dependable.  You need to feel confident that your cake will arrive on time and survive the conditions of the day.

Your cake is a true expression of your style.   Everything from the size, the shape, the details, the color, are options for the greatest finish.  That includes miniature cakes or even cupcakes!  Be sure to give all the important details of the day to your cake designer too.  They should know if it will be outside or inside, the time of the year for weather and heat influences, and of course, how many guests to feed.  You definitely do not want to run out.

Your options are truly endless, but exciting.  Don’t be afraid to have fun and be yourself.  We love to take pictures of your cake, as you can tell.  We even keep mini albums in our studio of the variety of cakes that we have documented since they are so much fun to share for inspirations.

So, dig in!  Oh,  but that reminds me… what about the flavors?  How could we forget to discuss the other lovely perfection of this tower of sweet?  Did you know that you have amazing options with fillings as well?  Here is where that treasured experience of tasting comes in handy.  One our true favorites is the Pink Champagne cake by Kelly Dalisa.  But who can resist anything that has chocolate ganache, mocha butter cream, red velvet, and combinations you can only dream about?  Now, don’t forget to confirm who will be cutting your cake at the reception.  That is an art of its own.

For all you fans of that delightful perfection of the timeless tradition of the wedding cake, please share with all of us your favorite flavor combinations.  This is such a perfect opportunity to give support to our lovely new brides and grooms as they plan their perfect wedding experience.  Happy Tastings!

Rain or No Rain?

Since this is a particularly busy time of year for many of you brides and grooms planning your incredible upcoming wedding, I thought that I can start passing along some very important information to consider while selecting your wedding date and location.

So, let’s get right to the point and one of the biggest concerns.  Rain.  Even though having a wedding in California is less concerning when it comes to this soggy version of Mother Nature, we still have to be prepared.   We comment to our brides and grooms all the time… It will work in your favor if you plan for rain even if the chances are slim.  Don’t you remember “Murphy’s Law?

If you are still on the hunt for that perfect venue, be sure you ask questions  that include what the back up plans are for rain.  How many guests will you be able to have indoors if your ceremony is moved?  Can you bring in a tent?  What have they done in the past for rain situations?  What months or times of the year for your location should you be cautious of the seasonal drops?  Your wedding vendors are perfect resources for helping you plan for alternate weather conditions since they have the experience.  And they should have experience, if you know what I mean.

Now don’t be nervous or think rain will automatically cause problems for your wedding.  Some of our best events were filled with umbrellas and the biggest smiles ever.

Rrain or even snow can add an element of uniqueness to your wedding photos and video as well.  We love to sugggest to our couples that having personally selected umbrellas or fun rubber boots can add a lot of personality to your images.  There are so many incredible colors and brilliant designs of umbrellas to select from.  We are even adding to our collection for variety and to help with the experience of the day.

Let us know if you have a perfect rain story or even if you have questions about weddings in the rain.  But most of all, don’t be shy about asking your vendors for help and ideas.   We want your day to be as perfect as planned.
