Just Stop and Smile

With all the crazy rain and unpredictable weather and wedding season in kicking into full gear, I couldn’t resist posting a couple of images that just made me smile every time I came across them at my desk.  Sunshine comes in all different forms for us.  These two little ones are perfect examples of the best kind of happiness you can find.

We were able to squeeze in a sunny day shoot between storms and it was a perfect day.  Now, I can’t take all the credit for these smiles:  Julie and William are a couple of regulars at the studio and they actually make us laugh and giggle right along with them.  For them, they are just coming over to hang out and have fun.

It takes just a moment to capture these little faces, expressions and giggles, but they last forever.  William just turned One and Julie just turned Four, and I swear we just took their newborn pictures.

Lovely Lakeside Engagement

As we spend a great deal of time with our brides and grooms, we are honored to hear about their own personal love stories.  But it even gets better when they take you to the location of their first date!

This is the very bench they sat on their first date.  How cool is that?  But the fun was just getting started.

We always talk about how weddings are Barry and I’s date nights, but I have to say, our engagement sessions are kicking some serious butt lately.  We had an amazing time hanging out with Leslie and Dan.  I love the early time we get to spend with our brides and grooms as they make their journey to their wedding day bliss.  And what an amazing wedding they will have at Catta Verdera Country Club along with some of the best wedding professionals around including Extreme Productions, Divine Desserts , and Floral Creations by Melissa.

Beals Point at Folsom Lake ended up being a terrific location for the session.  The Lake looked amazing with the water levels being so much higher after all of the winter rains.  The surrounding hillsides and landscapes were open and just breathtaking with the white mountain peaks in the back ground.  We even laughed about feeling like we were on Safari or somewhere else exotic since there weren’t any crowds and the scenery was breathtaking.

Thank you Leslie and Dan for a truly wonderful time.  You both are incredible people and make a phenomenal team.  Your wedding day is going to be stunning and remarkable.

No Crying with these Kids

We have a pretty simple Easter Day with family… A little search for the baskets from Grandma and Papa that begins with a treasure hunt out of rhymes.  Then the usual hunt for eggs.  But I won’t bother showing you those images.  Let’s just get to the point.  The excitement that even has my two boys dropping their baskets full of candies and chocolates and run for their helmets.

The weather held out for the fourth year in a row and we are literally watching our own boys advance each year into more challenging off-road options.  Zach came home and even shared what his goal will be to ride next Easter.  Wow.  There isn’t even any room for the big kids to join in any more except of course, for Barry.  There is usually a cheer going on for each kid to have a ride with him on something.

I had to throw in a couple of extra images of the cousins for good laughs.  These kids came home wiped out and smiling from ear to ear.  A family day we desperately needed after running around endlessly with school, baseball, and work.  The cousins don’t get to hang out as often as they would love to with each other.

We hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break and Easter as much as we did.  A great chance to unwind and just enjoy the kids.

Change can be Great!

As many of you know, Barry and I remodeled our studio gallery space a couple of years ago to bring in more of our personality and photography style.  But if you look closely, we have done it again.  More changes.  There are even subtle changes in this image of the new direction taking place.

We’ll come back to this in a moment.  The changes I really want to share have to do with an entirely new expansion.  It couldn’t have come at a better time too.  Now, I know some of you have had the chance to see it for yourself and even during the  construction phase.  But I love showing it off just the same.

We finally did it.  We expanded the studio gallery to our upstairs space.  approximately 900 sq. feet of space.  More than I ever dreamed of having.  The perfect amount to give our studio families all the room they need to relax and prepare for their sessions and reviews.

So, why the addition?  Why not keep everything cozy in the original space?  Why change anything at all if it is working?

This is the cool part… Everything we do is about our customers.  How comfortable we can possibly make your experience from the consultation to the photo session, to the review, and even picking up your orders.

We had always been comfortable having everyone come into the house and make themselves at home.  But now we are able to really take it to the next level.  We have a full kitchen with a huge variety of refreshments including juices, waters, tea, sodas, etc.  Little ones are able to play on the amazing floor space with a selection of toys and puzzles.  We have a walk in closet for hanging outfits.  Our bathroom has a full size mirror and plenty of space for moving around and changing.  We even have a bedroom fully equipped with everything you need during those precious newborn sessions.  Blankets, hats, diapers, and all those little needed details in between.

We love change.  Barry and I enjoy challenging our senses and exploring new directions.  It is how we keep growing and improving our photography style and personal customer care.  We have always said our customers are our studio family.  There isn’t a better way than to give you that true feeling of being home.  We love seeing everyone just take a deep breath and relax as soon as they come up stairs.

Oh, and coming back to the first picture of our down stairs studio space… our brides and grooms have their own place to focus on just wedding details.  Now they do have the opportunity to enjoy the experience upstairs as well.  Especially for their engagement sessions.  We have even had a wonderful couple use our kitchen for their session while they prepared a dinner for each other.  That will be another blog coming to you shortly.  It was perfect!

I have to really thank our studio family.  Without your continuing returns and referrals to our little place in the country, we would never have dreamt of taking on this adventure.  My “Boys” (all three of them), are quickly learning that Mom now has her own get away spot.  Forget the Man Cave idea.

Part Two ~ Behind the Scenes

This is one blog I have been really, really excited to write.  A very long time coming since I have been seriously working on this idea for several years.  Yet, the idea is not new in any respect to that of innovation.  In fact, my Dad had this idea to share with our customers over 15 years ago.  But we all know where technology was back then.

I am going to ramble a tad bit and share a few more images of Amanda and Brian’s wedding.  I’m sure you won’t mind since they were truly an amazing couple and our Part Two is about them too.

With all the hustle and bustle going on preparing for the largest bridal show in the area, (Sunday morning) we are constantly reminded on how important the details are for planning a wedding.  Even going through Amanda and Brian’s images, I have been remembering all the details in working out their timelines, family photo combinations, etc.  All part of the relationship we build with our brides and grooms.  The relationship and personal care that enables us to capture everything they wanted and more.

But how do we show that ahead of time?  We have been extremely fortunate and blessed to have the amazing support and following of our earlier brides and grooms and their families.  They spread the word about us and even go into great detail and lengths to share their experiences with others.  We will be spoiled with that support again by having Amanda join us at the Bridal Showcase this Sunday, January 9th at Cal Expo.  She is an absolute delight and will be very helpful giving first had advice on what worked for her on planning her amazing wedding.

Well, we didn’t want to stop there.  It has always been so important to Barry and I that everyone feels how much we value creating a relaxed and comfortable experience on wedding day.  We want our couples to savor every moment of the journey and relive that memory through their images.  So with that in mind, we had an additional short film produced to show a little of the fun and interaction we have with everyone.

A Bright New Addition for the New Year!

This may appear like a typical blog about a fabulous wedding we typically shoot, but we have so much more to share.  We will of course, include a few favorite images.

We take a very personal role with each and every wedding we photograph.  To the point of explaining how important working relationships are in every detail from flowers, to cake, with the entertainment, food… You name it.  So, when this dear couple, Amanda and Brian came to our studio, there was no exception.  They were off to an incredible start with Melissa at Floral Creations and Joe with Sj’s Disc Jockey.

One of the best part of our relationships with our couples, is that the inspiration goes both ways.  Amanda and Brian wanted something they couldn’t find, and I, of course, had to figure a way to make it happen.  Don’t get me wrong.  We have been brainstorming this idea for some time on how to make it our own style and personal touch.  It just took the right couple and the talent of a great friend to help pull it all together.

Amanda and Brian’s wedding was at the Ryde Hotel with all the charm and features a photographer dreams about when capturing timeless moments for their couples.  And Amanda included a little spark of her own.

We find having some of our best moments of inspiration comes so naturally while working with amazing couples and extremely talented professionals.

Our newest addition to our Ford Family Photography studio services will be a short film of wedding day highlights.  We can’t begin to thank our very dear friend and cinematographer, Sam Harnack, for his talented creation.  We are very excited to be able to offer another personal and customized service for our customers.  Enjoy!

Giving from the Heart

Yes, we are officially into the “Giving Season”.  And yes, we know there are so many opportunities and options for giving back to the community including food drives, coat drives and toys drives.  We are always eager to help where ever we can.  But this year, we really wanted to take it a step further and include our studio family in supporting local families that are only asking for basic needs.  We are loving the fact that other kids besides our own boys are participating and learning about how big a family can truly be when they open their hearts.

Here are some of the items we would still like to add to our collection for our Adopt a Family for the Holidays.  The last day to drop your items off at the studio is Sunday, December 12th.  Please remember, the items can be very simple.  A sweater, a package of socks, a pair of sweats, etc.  We are not asking for large items or expensive clothing.  Just warmth.

Warm Clothes for a little boy age one (size 18 months), little girl age five (size 4t), little girl age one (size 2t).

Diapers and wipes sizes 4 and 5

Family Gift Cards for K-Mart, Ross and Pack & Save.  The cards can be simple amounts of $10, $15, etc.

Feel free to send us a personal email or call the studio directly and let us know how you can help out these two families.  Thank you for all the support we have been receiving already.  This has been an amazing experience already.  A little goes a LONG way if we all contribute.  And who doesn’t love to shop for little kids’ clothes?

Thank you for all the giving and support this holiday season.  We have the best studio family and friends around.
